Upper West Side Dental was invited to participate in the first PS/MS 165 Family Health and Fitness Fair held at PS/MS 165. The fair was held on Saturday, May 10th 2014. It was a beautiful sunny day, a perfect day for a fair. We were excited to help raise funds for the schools new recess program. The businesses in the neighborhood came together and offered fun activities and food for everyone to enjoy. There were free dance, karate and yoga classes.
One group offered free Zumba classes which were a hit! There was even a booth that offered facials, massages and manicures. There was a man on stilts that came to each booth and took a photo with all the participants and families. Besides educating the children on the importance of brushing, flossing and seeing the dentist every 6 months, we had a game our Office Manager Ana created called “Fix My Tooth”.
All the kids who played had a lot of fun pinning the “tooth” to the “smile” while blindfolded. One child said she felt like a dentist! The game is similar to Pin the Tail on the Donkey. The objective of the game is to “pin” the “tooth” to the smile with the missing tooth; it was a big hit. We were happy to help raise awareness in our community about the importance of health issues and the need for active recess programs in our public schools. We would like to thank the PTA at PS/MS 165 for inviting us and look forward to participating next year.
